Health and Science

1.  Do the numbers tell us that smoking is on the rise or the decline?  How many people does the CDC estimate will die this year of smoking related illness?

2.  Where was a 1.97-million year old fossil found?  What features of the creature were similar to humans and which were different?

3.  Why do you think some people might hesitate to admit that they have a mental illness?  As Americans, do we place a stigma or think negatively about people who admit they have a mental illness?

examples of mental illness include: depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress etc...

  1. 1.the numbers show that smoking is declining. it has went down 2 percent since 2005. the CDC estimates that 443,000 will die this year of smoking related illness.
    2. the fossil was found in a cave in south America. the creature walked upright just like humans .it lived in trees.
3.some people might hesitate to tell people they have mental problems because some people might tease them or think of them differently now.i don't know about Americans in general but i don't think negative about people with mental problems

  2. Yes the number's do tell us that the smoking is declining by 17 percent .. The CDC estimate eill die this year of smoking 43,000.
The fossils that where found was a 9 year old boy and apes like creature . They are different because one is human and the other one runs around and climbs on tress.
The reason why some people might hesitate that they have a mental illness is because sometimes they don't want anybody to know what is really going and they don't how to tell somebody that something is wrong with them . Yes we do put a negative about people who admit they have a mental illness is because sometime we are the ones that also have a problem but we think they if we talk bout the next person maybe our problems will go away and we wont have to deal with out situation that we r going through .

  3. yeah numbers does tell us that smoking is on the decline. It appears to be declining more slowly for the past decades. 17 percent of americans will still in 2020.443,000 people will parish from smoking, how stupid they all are including me LOL.A 1.97 fossil was found in South African cave. It had a pelvis and legs that were similar to humans. With a much smaller brain and long arms, feet, and shoulders like those of an ape. Because just like me, "THEY DONT CARE" or they might be in denial about it. Yeah some people do and some people do not. I dont kno why..

  4. 1. The numbers has shown us that smoking is actually declining. It's about a 2% decrease from a survey taken in 2005. The CDC thinks that around 443,000 people a year will die of smoking related issues.
    2. The fossil was found in a South African cave, by a young boy chasing his dog. The creature does show a lot of similarities. First off, it has thumbs. Though it seems like nothing, humans are one of the only creatures that have thumbs. This could allow the monkey to perform a lot more tasks. It walks on two legs. It's body is pretty similar to ours but it's arms and legs were much longer, and it was still living in trees.
    3. I think a lot of people hesitate to admit that they are suffering from a mental illness because people often look at it like it's weak. A lot of people struggle from these diseases, but once you put the name "disease" on it, it's looked at as though it's weird. Americans will often look down on those acting differently or outrageous from a mental disease. As a nation we could try to change that, and allow the people to feel more comfortable admitting it, but how long could that take?

  5. 1.) Numbers tell us smoking is on a decline.CDC surveys show that over 19 present of adult population smoked last year, down from nearly 21 present in 2005. 443,000 people are estimated to die per year due to tobacco-related diseases.

2.) The 1.97 million year old fossil was found in a South African cave. The fossil was an ape-like creature that walked upright and had other human-like features.

3.) I think some people hesitate to admit they have a mental illness because they might find it embarrassing, might not no they have it, or because they don't want to be judged. Some people might think negatively about people with a mental illness. Others might no someone who had one or someone who went through the same kind of thing. So some might not be so quick to judge.

  6. The numbers show that smoking is declining. The CDC estimates 443,000 people will die per year from tobacco use.

The 1.97-million year old fossil was found in a cave in South Africa. The fossil has a pelvis and legs like our own,but has a smaller brain, longer arms, feet, and shoulders like an ape.

Some people might hesitate to admit the have a mental illness because they might think they don't have one or they don't think its bad enough to need help. Some people do think badly about them but some people feel sorry for them or even try to help them.

  7. 1. smoking is declining 2% since 2005, and 443,000 people will most likely die this year of smoking or secondhand smoking.
    2. south america is were the fossil was found, and the creature walked on two feet such as humans do and they also live in trees.
3.they hesitate because they most likely dont want people to make fun of them or tease them. i think people shouldnt worry about other people that have personal issues, because if people didnt have issues or problems that wouldnt make them different.

  8. 1. The numbers tell us that cigarette smoking is at a slow decline. An estimate of 443,000 smokers will die of smoking related ilnesses.

    2. The fossils were found in a South African cave. The creature the fossils belonged to had thumbs, and the pelvic bone and legs were similar to ours. However, had a smaller brain, longer arms, and had other ape like features.

    3. I believe many people are very hesitant to admit mental illness because of the view of mental illness to be a weakness, rather a handicap. I've seen that mental illness has been often viewed negatively in American society. For example Megan Fox had a tattoo of Marilyn Monroe removed because Monroe suffered mental illness and fox didn't want to attract "bad vibes" from the image of Monroe.

  9. 1.)It tell us that smoking is on the decline. The smoking population is going down they are trying to stop selling them before non-smokers try to start smoking. About 17 percent of them will died because of the tobacco disease.

2.)It was found in a South African cave.Fossils of an ape-like creature that walked upright and had other human-like features may be the oldest ancestor of modern humans ever found and the ape is different.

3.)Some americans suffer from untreated mental illness a new federal study has found.Researchers for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, and other disorders seriously disabled 11 million people in 2009.That means many more sufferers are likely going uncounted

  11. 1.The number of smokers is on the decline. The CDC estimated that half of people that smoke today will die of smoking related illness, which strike down 443,000 Americans per year. 2. The 1.97 million year old fossil was found in south African cave. The features of the creature that is similar to humans is Sediba`s pelvis and legs are surpisingly similar to our own. The difference is they have a smaller brain and long arms, feet, and shoulders like those of an ape. Some people might hesitate to admit that thery have a mental illness is because they view their symptoms as a moral issue or an issue of weakness, as opposed to treatable medical condition. Some people place stigma or think negatively about people that admit they have a mental illness and some people don`t.

  12. uno1> Yet smoking has declined by 17%, the CDC claims still his year 43,000 could die caused deaths from smoking. douse2> A fossil found in South America, was claimed to survive in trees and walked upright just as humans. Thrase3> People with an mental illness have issues to admitting to themselves let alone others due to self acceptance. "LEARN TO LOVE WHO YOU ARE"!!Denial is an easy way to abandon self judgement and others judgements.. ask yourself: "why care??" tell yourself: "I AM THE WAY I WAS MADE OUT TO BE!",remember: DENIAL IS ONLY NEGATIVITY TO YOURSELF. -RAINElovesthecolors
